Centralia - Chehalis Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 4.

OLC, a volunteer literacy organization that has served Lewis County since 1971 is disbanding and Centralia College is taking over its services for adults needing to earn their GEDs or learn English or basic skills like reading and math.

Centralia College to take over services provided by Our Literacy Council.

Our Literacy Council of Lewis County was founded in the early 1970s by community volunteers to assist new immigrants from southeast Asia, eastern Europe and Hispanic countries to learn English. In 1986, the council entered into an informal partnership with Centralia College to provide one on one tutoring for GED and basic skills students.

Effective January 1, 2019, Centralia College will be providing the services previously provided by OLC. In addition, GED testing fee scholarships will continue to be provided through the Centralia College Foundation’s Eric M Shriver Memorial Scholarship.

For information on Literacy classes or earning a high school diploma or GED, visit Centralia College’s Odegaard Phoenix Center inside the Transitional Services Building (corner of Rock St and Centralia College Blvd) or call 360-623-8957.
