Faith and Community United, a group of local church leaders dedicated to enhancing the positive impact of churches on the quality of life for all, is sponsoring Singspiration, a community hymn sing. It will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at the La Porte Civic Auditorium. The program will include old hymns, new hymns and a variety of music that will appeal to all generations.

Musicians will include the La Porte Singing Company, the North American Brass Company Quintet representing the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra, pianist Sue Rosselli, and others yet to be announced.

Sauers Buick GMC is the event sponsor for Singspiration. Added support from area churches, organizations and individuals will make it possible for the event to be open to all with no admission charge.

Tim King, Executive Director of the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra and Matt Nelson, Conductor of the La Porte County Singing Company, headed the program planning team along with Cheryl Gardner and Susie Richter. “This will clearly be an exciting and uplifting event,” King said. “We will have great musicians and a wonderfully diverse array of music. We hope the Civic Auditorium will be filled to the rafters with people who will especially enjoy the sing-along selections.”

The Rev. Kit Billings, pastor of New Church (Swedenborgian) is coordinating the tree planting project that the net proceeds from the event will fund. “Faith and Community United supports efforts to improve the environment, and we’ve worked with the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of La Porte to facilitate planting of trees in Kesling Park, a project that will both beautify the park and enhance the environment,” Billings said.
